Founder Pavel Durov has refused Russia's new Data Protection Laws for Telegrams end-to-end encryption. Russia has threatened a BAN against Telegram Messaging App.
"Terrorist who killed 15 people in Saint Petersburg in April had used the Telegram Messaging Service to plot the Attacks" said Russia's FSB Intelligence Service.
From January 1, all Foreign Tech Companies have been required to maintain it's past 6 months personal data of its citizens and encryption keys and share that data with country's Authorities on demand. It's all according to new Russian Data Protection Laws.
Russia wants Telegram to share it's users personal chats and keys, as the Encrypted Messaging App has become widely popular among terrorist for operating missions inside Russia.
If Telegram refuses to share users data with Russian Government, then Telegram shall be BLOCKED in Russia until they receive the needed information.
"Intelligence Agencies had pressured the Telegram Company to weaken it's encryption or install a backdoor to it" said Founder Pavel Durov on Twitter.
So until now, Telegram has declined to comply with the Russian Government requirements in order to protect the privacy of it's more than 6 million Russian users.
